URGENT UPDATE: Significant traffic disruptions are set to begin in the Kīlauea area starting December 1, as the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) initiates permanent striping of the Kīlauea Roundabout. Travelers and residents should prepare for detours and altered traffic patterns during this crucial period that lasts until December 12.

From 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays, access from Kolo Road to Kūhiō Highway will be closed to facilitate the work, raising concerns for daily commuters and visitors alike. HDOT has advised that alternate routes via Pili Road and Hoʻokuʻi Road will be necessary during these hours to avoid delays.

This project is aimed at enhancing traffic flow and safety at a vital intersection in Kīlauea. HDOT emphasizes the importance of worker safety during the striping process, explaining that the closure is essential for the safety of both workers and drivers.

Residents are urged to allow extra travel time and remain vigilant for temporary traffic patterns throughout this period. The adjustments are part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and ensure safer roads for everyone.

As the work commences, the community is encouraged to share updates and experiences on social media to keep fellow travelers informed. Stay tuned for more developments as HDOT continues to address these critical traffic enhancements in the Kīlauea area.
