Lane Kiffin has officially left his position as head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels to take the helm at Louisiana State University (LSU). Kiffin noted that the anger from fans is a common occurrence in the SEC, suggesting it reflects the high expectations and investment that supporters place in their teams. “I’m not upset at those reactions by fans, by people,” he stated. “I think that people get really upset when you leave somewhere because they feel hurt because you’re doing a really good job.”

He recounted a tense moment while leaving Oxford, where he felt compelled to call a local police officer for assistance as fans shouted at him during his departure. “That airport scene, and all the things being said? I understand that it’s the passion, but they’re saying that about you,” he said.

Following the tumultuous exit, Kiffin quickly found reassurance upon his arrival in Baton Rouge. He described how seeing Tiger Stadium lit up during his drive to LSU made him feel confident about his decision. “You go by Tiger Stadium and it’s lit up, and you’re like, ‘I absolutely made the right decision,'” he reflected.

Kiffin leaves Ole Miss after leading the team to an 11-1 record this season, which positioned them for a potential first appearance in the College Football Playoff and a shot at the program’s second national championship.
