Coca-Cola Announces Light Cherry’s Return, Reviving Nostalgia
Coca-Cola has confirmed the return of its popular beverage, Light Cherry Coke, set to hit shelves in 2026 after being discontinued in 2020. This cherry-flavored, low-calorie drink, originally introduced in 1986, is expected to attract both loyal fans and new customers, reigniting interest in the competitive soft drink market in the United States.
During the company’s third-quarter earnings presentation, CEO James Quincey emphasized the importance of this relaunch to drive growth in a challenging market. He noted that Light Cherry Coke taps into existing consumer demand, making it a strategic choice that carries less risk compared to new product launches. Quincey stated, “The Light Cherry Coke is a familiar product, with an actual existing demand.”
The decision comes as Coca-Cola seeks to enhance its portfolio of healthier beverage options. In recent years, consumers have increasingly scrutinized their drink choices, opting for products perceived as lighter or more health-conscious. The company has responded to this trend with innovations like Simply Pop, a new beverage introduced in February that offers a lower-sugar alternative made with 25%–30% concentrated fruit juice and no additional sweeteners.
Coca-Cola’s strategy with Light Cherry Coke aligns with these consumer preferences, presenting a low-calorie option that combines a classic cola taste with a cherry twist. In addition to the nostalgic appeal, the drink will initially be available in 20-ounce bottles and 12-can packs, as confirmed by influencers like Snackolator, a popular source for tracking new product introductions.
