Sophia Bordi, a pitcher for the Oklahoma Sooners, has announced her decision to enter the transfer portal. The announcement came via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, marking a significant shift in her collegiate career. Bordi expressed her desire for change, stating, “This wasn’t an easy decision to make, but sometimes things have to change in order to try and find that little kid in yourself who’s yearned for as long as you can remember to be living in the blessings that you’re currently in, to find that spark again.”

Bordi, who enrolled at Oklahoma ahead of the 2025 season, did not play in any games during her time with the team. After stepping away from the program in May to focus on her personal and mental health, she returned to her hometown of Merchantville, NJ. During her absence, she also missed out on the Sooners’ intrasquad Battle Series and their exhibition games this fall.

Prior to joining Oklahoma, Bordi was a high-profile recruit, earning recognition as the New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year twice and leading her high school to two state championships. She was the top-rated pitcher in the 2025 recruiting class but opted to reclassify and join the Sooners a year early. Initially, her plan was to redshirt and develop under the guidance of Jennifer Rocha, Oklahoma’s associate head coach and pitching coach. However, her plans shifted following her departure from the program.

In her farewell message, Bordi expressed gratitude for her experiences at Oklahoma. “I want to say thank you to the people close to me in Oklahoma and the Sooner fans who have continued to support me and show me love throughout my journey thus far,” she stated. “I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given and the time I’ve spent at OU.”

With Bordi’s exit, the Sooners’ pitching staff will now include Kierston Deal, Audrey Lowry, Berkley Zache, Sydney Berzon, Miali Guachino, and Allyssa Parker. The team faced a challenging 2025 season, witnessing the end of their four-year national championship streak after falling to Texas Tech in the semifinals of the Women’s College World Series. Texas subsequently secured the national title by defeating Texas Tech in the championship series.

As Bordi embarks on her next chapter, her future remains open to new challenges and opportunities in her athletic career.
