Warriors Shock Cavs with Pat Spencer’s Career-High Performance
UPDATE: The Golden State Warriors delivered a stunning upset against the Cleveland Cavaliers, clinching a 99-94 victory on Saturday night in Cleveland. This unexpected win comes as the Warriors were missing key players including Steph Curry, Seth Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler.
With a depleted roster, the Warriors turned to Pat Spencer, who rose to the occasion with a career-high 19 points and seven assists. Spencer’s performance, coupled with a strong team effort, marked a crucial victory for a Warriors team that had lost their previous two games.
Trailing 96-91 in the final minute, the Warriors showcased their grit as Gui Santos scored a pivotal free throw, extending their lead to 97-94. The Cavaliers, led by Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley, fought back but ultimately fell short when Mitchell missed a critical three-pointer with just four seconds left.
Initially, the Warriors struggled, falling behind 18-12 at the end of the first quarter while Spencer faced foul troubles. However, they dominated the second period, outscoring the Cavs 33-18 and taking a commanding lead of 72-62 by the end of the third quarter.
“We needed everyone to step up, and Pat really delivered tonight,” said Warriors coach Steve Kerr.
Kerr hinted that the injured stars could return as soon as December 12 against the Bulls, stating, “I talked to team doctor Rick Celebrini, and he said Steph is doing well.” Curry has been sidelined for four games due to a quad strain.
In the wake of this victory, the Warriors’ coach challenged two young players, Brandin Podziemski and Jonathan Kuminga, to elevate their games. While Kuminga struggled with a 1 of 10 shooting performance, Podziemski contributed with 10 points off the bench.
The match also highlighted the influence of Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson, a former assistant under Kerr, who praised his mentor for shaping his coaching philosophy. “Steve understands leadership as well as anybody,” Atkinson remarked.
As the Warriors celebrate this unexpected win, fans are eager to see how the team will perform when their stars return. This victory not only boosts team morale but also demonstrates the depth and resilience of the Warriors’ roster.
Stay tuned for updates as the Warriors prepare for their upcoming game against the Bulls, where they hope to build on this momentum and welcome back their star players.
