Helen Mirren expressed her admiration for Jane Fonda during an exclusive interview at the L’Oréal Paris Women of Worth Celebration held on December 2, 2023, in Los Angeles. Mirren praised Fonda for her “radical and controversial” outlook on life, emphasizing the remarkable journey she has undertaken. “I’ve always thought what an absolute remarkable life she’s had with incredible expanse of different things. Always constantly with energy, commitment, radical, controversial but, always committed to life,” Mirren stated. “She’s definitely one of my Women of Worth.”

Celebrating Women of Worth

The event marked the 20th anniversary of the Women of Worth program, which recognizes female innovators and leaders. This year’s celebration spotlighted ten honorees, including Yasmine Arrington Brooks, Amy Bowers Cordalis, and Olivia Zhang, among others. The gathering took place at the prestigious Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, showcasing the program’s two decades of commitment to empowering women.

Among the attendees were other notable global ambassadors of L’Oréal Paris, including Andie MacDowell, Kendall Jenner, and Heidi Klum. The event not only honored these women but also created a platform for discussions about the impact of female leadership across various fields.

Mirren’s Journey and Upcoming Projects

Throughout her six-decade career, Mirren has remained a prominent figure in the entertainment industry. In her candid discussion, she admitted to struggling with confidence, stating, “I don’t have confidence. I have absolutely no confidence whatsoever. But I pretend I do. It’s just a big act.” This admission highlights the pressures and challenges even established celebrities face in their careers.

Looking ahead, Mirren is set to star in Kate Winslet’s directorial debut, Goodbye June, which is scheduled for release in select theaters on December 12, 2023, and will be available for streaming on Netflix starting Christmas Eve. The film features a star-studded cast, including Toni Collette and Andrea Riseborough, and explores the complex dynamics of estranged siblings coming together to support their terminally ill mother.

Winslet, reflecting on her decision to direct, noted the importance of advocating for women in male-dominated spaces. “I found myself in a moment of realization, having spent so much of my life advocating and trying to elevate other women… in my 50s, I did it!” This sentiment resonates with the broader themes celebrated at the Women of Worth event.

As the celebration underscored the achievements of women like Fonda and others, it also served as a reminder of the ongoing work to uplift and empower women across all sectors of society.
