UPDATE: A 28-year-old Tennessee man is charged with reckless murder following a fatal DUI crash in Montgomery, Alabama, that claimed the life of 54-year-old Frederick Bernard Hill. The crash occurred at 8:07 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the intersection of East Fairview Avenue and Norman Bridge Road.

According to officials, Cameron Wilhite, a resident of Memphis, was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee when he collided with two vehicles, including a Ford Escape and a Ford Explorer driven by Hill. Tragically, Hill was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after the incident.

The investigation revealed that Wilhite registered a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .15, nearly twice the legal limit, about an hour and a half after the crash. Officers found open containers in his vehicle and described Wilhite as being in an “obviously impaired state.” This alarming detail underscores the dangers of impaired driving and its devastating consequences.

Wilhite has been booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility and is currently held without bond. His next court appearance is expected to draw significant attention as the community grapples with the tragedy.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with driving under the influence. As the investigation continues, local authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected impaired drivers.

As Montgomery mourns the loss of Hill, families are reminded of the impact of such reckless behavior. The community is left questioning how many more lives need to be affected by DUI incidents before meaningful change occurs.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story as more details emerge.
