Stamkos Shines with Four Goals in Predators’ Victory Over Blues
In a standout performance, Steven Stamkos scored four goals, leading the Nashville Predators to a commanding 7-2 victory against the St. Louis Blues on March 14, 2024. This victory marks a significant turnaround for the Predators, who have found momentum with a record of 6-2 in their last eight games, driven largely by Stamkos’ resurgence.
Stamkos, who had struggled earlier this season with just four goals in his first 22 games, now boasts eight goals in the last eight outings. “I’m going to have to remember what I ate for breakfast. When you get to my age sometimes you forget,” the 35-year-old athlete remarked after the game. His early goal in the match set the tone for the night, showcasing his renewed scoring ability.
Historic Performance and Milestones
This four-goal outing is the second of Stamkos’ illustrious 18-year career, with his previous four-goal game occurring on December 14, 2023, during his tenure with the Tampa Bay Lightning. With this performance, he became only the fourth player in Predators’ history to score four goals in a single game, joining notable names such as Filip Forsberg and Rocco Grimaldi.
Stamkos opened the scoring just 8:22 into the first period, converting a rebound from a two-on-one break. He quickly doubled the lead by finishing a rebound after a shot from Roman Josi was stopped by Jordan Binnington. He completed his hat trick with a deflected shot from the high slot and capped off his remarkable night with a backhanded goal to make it 6-2 in the second period.
This performance marked his 102nd career multi-goal game, placing him third among active players, trailing only Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby. Additionally, Stamkos is approaching a significant milestone, needing just six more goals to reach 600 for his career, which would make him the 22nd player in NHL history to achieve this feat.
Team Dynamics and Future Outlook
Stamkos’ recent performance comes as the Predators aim to improve their standings after a rocky start this season. “It hasn’t quite worked out the way we wanted in terms of the success we’ve had as a team. But we’re rolling right now,” he said, indicating a newfound confidence within the squad. The Predators currently hold a record of 12-14-4, inching closer to playoff contention.
As the team looks to build on this momentum, Stamkos’ leadership and scoring prowess will be crucial. His comments reflect a determination to maintain the positive trend: “I think we’re playing some hockey that people probably expected us to play, and expected of ourselves. And we want to keep that going.”
With the playoffs on the horizon, the Predators will need to leverage Stamkos’ experience and skill as they navigate the remainder of the season. The combination of individual excellence and team cohesion will be vital in their quest for a playoff spot.
