Nationwide No Kings Protests Erupt Amid Trump Tensions Today
URGENT UPDATE: Millions of Americans are gathering today for the No Kings Day protests across the Bay Area and nationwide, as tensions escalate surrounding President Donald Trump‘s potential deployment of the National Guard. Demonstrations are set to begin at 1:15 PM PT and are expected to attract thousands, particularly in San Francisco.
The protests come amid rising fears that Trump may use federal troops in what critics are calling an unlawful attempt to assert control. California Governor Gavin Newsom has condemned this move, stating, “It’s grossly illegal. It’s immoral. It’s rather delusional.” These statements echo concerns raised after the President’s controversial deployment of National Guard troops to Los Angeles in June.
Organizers of the No Kings protests, which have seen significant turnout in previous months, are rallying for peaceful demonstrations against the Trump administration’s approach to governance. Mike Johnson, House Speaker, has labeled these gatherings as “hate America rallies,” while participants insist they are exercising their First Amendment rights.
Notably, today’s protests will also feature a significant presence of law enforcement, with the San Francisco Police Department committed to ensuring public safety while facilitating free expression. A spokesperson emphasized the city’s tradition of supporting peaceful protest.
In addition to San Francisco, events are scheduled across the Bay Area and beyond, with some cities, like Austin, Texas, experiencing troop deployments unrelated to the No Kings protests. Organizers are using this moment to voice dissent against the perceived overreach of federal power.
As gatherings unfold, streets in San Francisco will be closed from 1:15 PM to 2:00 PM and again from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM to accommodate the protests. A list of street closures includes Market Street from Beale to Steuart and several other key intersections.
The emotional stakes are high, with leaders like Dianne McClure, VP of National Nurses United, voicing concerns over the influence of wealth on politics. “We do not believe in one person or one group of people, such as billionaires controlling our country,” she stated.
This developing situation is drawing national attention, as the No Kings protests symbolize a broader movement against perceived authoritarianism in American governance.
