Orioles Confirm Craig Albernaz as New Manager After Disappointing Season
BREAKING: The Baltimore Orioles are finalizing a deal to hire Craig Albernaz as their new manager, according to sources. This urgent move comes after a disappointing 2025 season where the Orioles finished last in the American League East with a record of 75-87 following a tumultuous start.
In mid-May, the Orioles fired former manager Brandon Hyde after a dismal 15-28 start, promoting Tony Mansolino as interim manager for the remainder of the season. Albernaz, esteemed for his connections with young players, is seen as the key to revitalizing a team rich with potential, including standout young talents like Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman.
Albernaz, 42, served as the associate manager for the Cleveland Guardians, who clinched the American League Central this year. He had previously been a finalist for Cleveland’s managerial position in 2023 and joined as bench coach when they opted for another candidate. His experience as a catcher and coach for the Tampa Bay Rays and San Francisco Giants has prepared him for this pivotal role.
The Orioles’ job is among the most intriguing in baseball, especially with a roster that boasts some of the highest potential in the league. Albernaz’s ability to foster relationships with players will be crucial for a team that includes exciting prospects like Jordan Westburg, Colton Cowser, and Jackson Holliday.
However, the Orioles face challenges ahead. Despite a promising roster, the pitching staff struggled last season. With key players like Trevor Rogers and Kyle Bradish showing potential, there are concerns about the health of Grayson Rodriguez and the overall depth of the pitching rotation.
Albernaz’s tenure will commence in one of baseball’s toughest divisions, where the competition is fierce, featuring the reigning AL champion Toronto Blue Jays, a formidable New York Yankees squad, the rising Boston Red Sox, and the consistently competitive Tampa Bay Rays.
As the Orioles prepare for the 2026 season, the hiring of Craig Albernaz marks a significant turning point for the franchise. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how his leadership will shape the team moving forward. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
