Radiohead’s ‘Let Down’ Surges to Billboard Hot 100 Amid Controversy
UPDATE: Radiohead’s iconic track “Let Down” has just surged to the Billboard Hot 100 chart, marking the band’s first entry in nearly two decades. Released in 1997 as part of their groundbreaking album “OK Computer,” the song has gone viral, captivating a new generation of listeners.
In a surprising twist, frontman Thom Yorke revealed he initially fought against including “Let Down” on the album. In a candid interview with The Sunday Times, Yorke expressed his disbelief, stating, “I fought tooth and nail for it not to be on the record, but Ed [O’Brien] was, like, ‘If it’s not, I’m leaving.’” O’Brien, who called the song the “emotional heart” of the album, noted his astonishment at its recent success, adding, “I told my kids, who are 18 and 21, and they said, ‘What do you expect? Teenagers are depressed. It’s depressing music!’”
The unexpected resurgence of “Let Down” comes at a time when the band’s past decisions are under scrutiny. In light of ongoing geopolitical tensions, Yorke firmly stated, “Absolutely not. I wouldn’t want to be 5,000 miles anywhere near the Netanyahu regime,” when asked about the possibility of performing in Israel again. His bandmate, Jonny Greenwood, offered a contrasting view, suggesting that a boycott might inadvertently empower the government, stating, “Everyone hates us — we should do exactly what we want, which is far more dangerous.”
