A tragic incident unfolded in Siberia, Russia, when a teenage girl was killed by bears during a family outing. Nineteen-year-old Olga Moskalyova was walking along a river with her stepfather, Igor Tsyganenkov, when they encountered a group of bears. The horrifying attack escalated while Olga was on the phone with her mother, Tatiana Moskalyova, who helplessly listened to the events unfold.

Initially, Olga called her mother out of fear, describing the terrifying encounter. The situation quickly became dire when a mother bear attacked Igor, and soon after, it chased Olga for approximately 70 yards before catching her leg. Despite the chaos, Olga managed to repeatedly call her mother, pleading for assistance. In a heart-wrenching moment, she reportedly screamed, “Mum, the bear is eating me! Mum, it’s such agony. Mum, help!”

At first, Tatiana thought it was a prank, but the chilling sounds of growling and chewing soon convinced her of the reality. She described the moment, stating, “But then I heard the real horror and pain in Olga’s voice and the sounds of a bear growling and chewing.” Overcome with shock, she felt as though she could have “died then and there.”

Olga continued to call her mother until an hour later, delivering devastating final words: “Mum, it’s not hurting any more. I don’t feel the pain. Forgive me for everything; I love you so much.” In disbelief, Tatiana contacted the authorities, who arrived at the scene about 90 minutes later.

Once on site, police dispatched six hunters to locate the bears. They discovered the animals still feeding on Olga’s lifeless body. The tragic loss of Olga, described by her mother as a “fun, warm and friendly” young woman, has deeply affected her family and community. Just days before the attack, she had celebrated receiving her driving license and had graduated from music school.

The incident highlights the increasing frequency of bear attacks in Russia, particularly in wildlife areas where bears search for food and perceive humans as threats to their territory. Such encounters raise concerns about safety in regions where human-wildlife interactions are on the rise.

Both Olga and her stepfather were laid to rest together, marking a heartbreaking end to a day that began with the promise of a summer adventure.
