Patriots Elevate D’Ernest Johnson to Active Roster Ahead of Falcons Game
The New England Patriots have elevated veteran running back D’Ernest Johnson from their practice squad ahead of their game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. This decision was confirmed when Johnson was added to the active roster on Saturday, just days after he signed with the Patriots.
At 29 years old, Johnson brings a wealth of experience to the Patriots’ backfield. He previously played for the Cleveland Browns and has accumulated a total of 989 career rushing yards on 215 carries along with three touchdowns. Over his seven seasons in the NFL, he has also demonstrated his versatility by catching 53 passes for 465 yards.
Strategic Roster Move
The Patriots opted to elevate Johnson over fellow practice squad running backs Jonathan Ward and Rushawn Baker. This strategic move comes as the team prepares for the Falcons, with a crucial need for depth in the running back position. Johnson was recently released from the practice squad of the Arizona Cardinals, where he participated in one game but did not record any rushing yards.
With Rhamondre Stevenson ruled out for the game due to a toe injury, the Patriots will also have TreVeyon Henderson and Terrell Jennings available as options in the backfield. Johnson’s addition is expected to bolster the team’s offensive strategy as they aim for a crucial win.
As the Patriots gear up for their matchup against the Falcons, Johnson’s experience and previous performance in the league may play a significant role in the team’s success. The game is set to commence at 16:00 UTC, as both teams look to secure vital points in their respective seasons.
