As the El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) concludes its fall festivities, Interim Superintendent Martha Aguirre has highlighted recent student achievements and updates on staff initiatives. Aguirre, who is overseeing operations during the district’s search for a new superintendent, emphasized the vibrant activity within EPISD, showcasing the hard work of students and staff alike.

In a message to the community, Aguirre reminded residents that their feedback is crucial to the superintendent search process. “Your feedback is helping the Board of Trustees define the leadership qualities in the next superintendent,” she stated, according to El Paso ISD. The district has created an online portal for community members to submit their input, which will remain open until November 2, 2023, reinforcing EPISD’s commitment to stakeholder engagement.

The athletic achievements of EPISD students were also celebrated. Aguirre recognized twelve athletes for their participation in the UIL Cross Country State Championships, which are taking place in Round Rock, Texas. “We want to wish luck to the 12 athletes who will represent EPISD at Round Rock this weekend,” Aguirre remarked, congratulating competitors from various high schools, including Austin, El Paso, Coronado, and Franklin.

One standout achievement came from Jesus Jasso, a senior at Burges High School, who received special recognition for his resilience in overcoming hearing loss. Jasso is set to represent the United States at the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo. Aguirre described him as a shining example of courage and determination, embodying the spirit of Mustang pride. His story of perseverance resonates with many in the EPISD community, illustrating the district’s dedication to supporting all students.

In addition to celebrating student successes, Aguirre announced a hiring initiative aimed at bolstering the Special Education Department. The district is actively seeking dedicated individuals to fill essential roles. A job fair is scheduled for November 6, 2023, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Professional Development Center located at 6500 Boeing Drive. The hiring event aims to attract passionate educators who can provide support to students with diverse learning needs, underscoring EPISD’s commitment to inclusive education.

These initiatives and recognitions mark a period of dynamic growth and achievement within the El Paso Independent School District, highlighting the importance of community involvement and the dedication of both students and staff. As the search for a new superintendent continues, Aguirre’s leadership ensures that the focus remains on fostering a supportive and thriving educational environment.
