Grassfield Girls Capture Region Championship; Cosby Boys Upset in Finals

UPDATE: In a thrilling showdown, the top-seeded Grassfield girls clinched the Class 6 Region A volleyball championship with a decisive 3-0 victory over Thomas Dale at Grassfield High School in Chesapeake on November 11, 2025. The Grizzlies showcased their dominance, winning the sets 25-21, 25-16, 25-11 to secure their title.

In a contrasting outcome, the Grassfield boys faced disappointment as they were defeated by Cosby in the Class 6 Region A championship. The Grizzlies lost 3-1 in a hard-fought match, with scores of 23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-20. Isaiah Agustin of Grassfield was visibly affected, walking off the court after the defeat.

The girls’ championship marked a significant achievement for Grassfield, with standout performances from Benisa Moore, Kenzie Johnson, Emery Stahl, and Lauren Dolbeck, each contributing five kills. Defensively, Ryann Bothof shone with an impressive 24 digs, helping to stifle Thomas Dale’s offensive efforts.

Meanwhile, in the Class 4 Region A championship, the Grafton Clippers secured their title against Jamestown, winning 3-0 with scores of 25-12, 25-20, 25-16. Kenzie Smith led the Clippers with a remarkable 21 kills and three blocks, continuing their undefeated streak.

As the volleyball postseason progresses, the Grafton Clippers will face Atlee in the Class 4 state quarterfinals on Saturday at 4 p.m., creating an exciting buildup for local fans.

In the Class 3 Region A semifinals, the top-seeded New Kent team dominated Lakeland, winning 3-0 with scores of 25-9, 25-6, 25-9. They will host Tabb, who also won their semifinal against Colonial Heights 3-0.

These developments in high school volleyball highlight the intensity of the competition and the emotional highs and lows experienced by players and fans alike. The Grizzlies’ success and the Titans’ upset draw attention as the region’s teams vie for glory in the upcoming state championships.
