Four female athletes from Kapaa High School recently celebrated a significant milestone by signing their National Letters of Intent on November 14, 2025. The athletes, Ruby Swartz, Chloe Ayonon, Carlyn Kamoku-Rapozo, and Sienna Yamashita, have demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication, earning them the opportunity to further their athletic careers at the collegiate level.

The signing event reflects not only the individual accomplishments of these athletes but also the collective effort of their support network. Paea Tafea, the girls’ volleyball coach, expressed pride in their hard work and commitment. “Each athlete has shown excellence both on the court and in their academic pursuits,” Tafea remarked after the team returned home with the state Division II trophy.

To qualify for this momentous occasion, the athletes meticulously completed all necessary documentation, ensuring they met the requirements for the National Letter Signing Day. Their achievements highlight the importance of discipline and determination in both sports and academics.

This event has drawn attention from the local community, with Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami emphasizing the collaborative spirit that supports young athletes, stating, “It takes a village…” The involvement of coaches, teachers, schoolmates, and family members has been instrumental in helping these athletes reach this important career juncture.

Looking ahead, attention is turning to the upcoming Football National Letter Signing Day scheduled for December 3, 2025. The excitement surrounding this event raises the question of which athletes might continue to follow in the footsteps of their volleyball counterparts.

In addition to sports events, this weekend promises various community activities. The Kukui Grove calendar highlights the Kupuna Connection program, supported by Spectrum, along with the K+M marketplace. Attendees can also enjoy a performance from the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School Jazz Band, showcasing the vibrant local culture.

With the recent government shutdown now resolved, the Kauai Ocean Discovery is expected to resume its regular Saturday and Sunday operations. Additionally, the monthly craft fair at The Beach House restaurant will take place on Sunday from 09:00 to 13:00, featuring an estimated 40 to 50 vendors.

The forecast from the National Weather Service indicates “mostly sunny” conditions with a high temperature of 29 degrees Celsius (84 degrees Fahrenheit), providing an ideal setting for community gatherings and celebrations.

In the spirit of community involvement and support for local athletes, the achievements of these four young women serve as an inspiration for future generations. Their journey underscores the importance of hard work and the backing of a dedicated support system in reaching significant milestones.
