Dallas Morning News Hosts DFW Sabores Event on Dec. 11
UPDATE: The Dallas Morning News and Al Día are set to host an exciting Spanish-language event, DFW Sabores en la Comunidad, on December 11 at 6 p.m. at the Vickery Park Library in Dallas, TX. This community gathering will spotlight the D-FW Sabores project, which celebrates authentic Mexican cuisine in North Texas.
Senior food reporter Imelda García will lead a panel discussion featuring three local Mexican chefs, emphasizing the cultural significance of food in the community. García remarked, “Beyond the dishes and their history, this series is about the people who cook them.” She aims to demonstrate that Mexican food is a rich tapestry woven from generations of tradition, far beyond just tacos.
The event promises to be a vibrant showcase, with multiple restaurants offering samples of their signature dishes and selling menu items. Attendees will explore over 30 dishes from various Mexican regions, including Oaxaca, Baja California, Nuevo León, Puebla, and Jalisco. This is a perfect opportunity for food lovers and those interested in cultural heritage to engage with the culinary arts.
This event is part of a series of community listening sessions aimed at fostering connections and understanding within the Hispanic community. According to U.S. Census data, approximately 42% of Dallas County identifies as Hispanic. Amy Hollyfield, managing editor of The News, emphasized, “We are building trust intentionally with our readers. Food is an equalizer to bring people together.”
The DFW Sabores en la Comunidad event will kick off with check-in at 6:00 p.m., followed by the panel discussion at 6:30 p.m. and a Q&A session at 7:15 p.m.. Free parking will be available, and the event is open to anyone interested in exploring the rich cultural landscape of Mexican cuisine.
For more information or to RSVP, attendees are encouraged to contact reporters María Ramos Pacheco at [email protected] and Imelda García at [email protected]. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to celebrate food, culture, and community!
