CNU Football Achieves Unbeaten 10-0 Season with 27-7 Win
BREAKING: Christopher Newport University (CNU) has made history, completing its first unbeaten regular season in football with a decisive 27-7 victory over The College of New Jersey on Friday night in Ewing. This remarkable achievement solidifies their position as a powerhouse in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
In a thrilling matchup, CNU’s Colin Hart etched his name in the record books, becoming the all-time receptions leader for the program, which began competition in 2001. He caught seven passes for 101 yards, contributing significantly to the team’s success.
CNU quarterback Connor Barry, a leading candidate for All-American honors, showcased his skills by completing 18 of 26 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns. Barry also added 33 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown on just seven carries. This performance has fans buzzing about his potential in the upcoming playoffs.
In a game filled with pivotal moments, Zavier Kennedy broke a scoreless tie with a 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, capping off an impressive 88-yard drive. Just minutes later, Barry connected with Josh Powell on an 11-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead to 14-0 by halftime.
Barry continued to shine in the third quarter with a 2-yard rushing touchdown, pushing the score to 21-0. Although The College of New Jersey’s Joe Visaggio managed to score with a 17-yard touchdown run late in the game, it was not enough to halt CNU’s momentum.
With this victory, CNU’s Captains, coached by Paul Crowley, now boast an impressive winning streak of 15 games dating back to last season. The team finished the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record and 7-0 in conference play, currently ranked seventh by d3football.com.
The anticipation is building as CNU awaits the NCAA playoff bracket announcement, scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday on NCAA.com. The Captains are expected to secure a first-round bye and could potentially host a game in the round of 32, heightening excitement among fans and players alike.
