Two Men Indicted on Cockfighting Charges Amid Weekend Storms
PHOENIX – Two men from Coolidge, Arizona, have been indicted on a total of 80 counts of cockfighting. The indictments are the result of a months-long investigation led by the Pinal County Attorney’s Office. Additionally, authorities are addressing public safety concerns following the fatal shooting of a 45-year-old man in West Phoenix.
In a separate incident, police have made an arrest related to the murder of Challistia Colelay, a Native American teenager. A suspect, also a teenager, is now in custody as the investigation unfolds. This development comes in the wake of national attention on violence against Native American communities.
As the legal proceedings continue for the accused in the cockfighting case, authorities seized over 110 roosters during the operation. Cockfighting, illegal in many jurisdictions, poses significant animal welfare concerns and is often linked to organized crime. The Pinal County Attorney’s Office aims to send a strong message against such activities through these indictments.
Weather conditions in Arizona are set to change significantly this weekend. A series of storms are expected to bring rain, gusty winds, and even snow to higher elevations. Forecasters estimate that these storms could lead to a considerable drop in temperatures across the state.
As these events unfold, residents are urged to stay informed about public safety issues and weather developments. The combination of ongoing criminal investigations and severe weather creates a challenging environment for the community this weekend.
