Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Kevin J. McAloon
Kevin J. McAloon, an accomplished engineer and devoted family man, passed away on September 16, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in Chicago, Illinois, to John H. McAloon and Eileen A. O’Sullivan McAloon, he dedicated his life to both his profession and his family.
McAloon completed his early education at Notre Dame Academy in Watsonville, California, before graduating from St. Ignatius High School in Chicago. Following his high school years, he served two years in the U.S. Army, a commitment that would shape his character and discipline. He later pursued higher education, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Detroit and a Master’s degree from the University of Southern California.
For three decades, McAloon made significant contributions to the aerospace industry. He held positions at notable companies such as Douglas Aircraft and Northrop. His longest tenure was with TRW, where he worked for 23 years before retiring in 1992. Following retirement, he continued to share his expertise by consulting part-time at TRW and Northrop Grumman for an additional nine years.
Passions Beyond Work
Outside of his professional life, McAloon was an avid motorcycle enthusiast. He enjoyed both dirt and street riding, often embarking on local and cross-country trips with his children. His passion for running led him to complete four marathons, three of which he participated in alongside his son. After transitioning from running, he took up cycling, finding joy in rides along the Palos Verdes peninsula and the farm roads of the Sacramento Valley. It was here that he developed a keen interest in farming technology, further expanding his horizons.
His family remembers him not only for his achievements but also for his vibrant personality. McAloon is survived by his four children, including Karen, and two grandchildren, Jack and Madeleine. He is also remembered by four nieces and nephews: Jack, Maureen, Jim, and Kathy.
While the obituary submitted reflects his life in a precise and economical manner, his family shared their sentiments, stating, “He will be missed. His wit, his charm, his kindness, his deep love of salt, his Irish humour.”
Kevin J. McAloon leaves behind a legacy of dedication, passion, and a profound impact on those who knew him. His contributions to engineering, his adventurous spirit, and his unwavering love for family will be cherished by many.
