Miami Dolphins Evaluate Future of McDaniel and Tagovailoa After Win
The Miami Dolphins are reassessing their future following a recent turnaround in their season. After initially struggling with a record of 1-6, the team has bounced back, winning two of their last three games, including a significant victory over the Buffalo Bills. With their current record standing at 3-7, the Dolphins now face a more favorable schedule for the remainder of the season, prompting speculation about the futures of head coach Mike McDaniel and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, team owner Stephen Ross is inclined to keep McDaniel as head coach. Rapoport noted that Ross has shown support for McDaniel and believes in his potential. “If at all possible for Mike McDaniel to continue, that’s going to be decided by how the players respond on the field. Is this locker room still behind him?” Rapoport stated, highlighting the importance of player morale in the decision-making process.
Should McDaniel remain in his position, it is likely that Tagovailoa will also continue as the Dolphins’ quarterback. Rapoport emphasized that McDaniel’s retention would significantly increase the chances of Tagovailoa staying with the franchise. He remarked, “If that happens, there’s a much better chance that Tua Tagovailoa, his quarterback, is the quarterback next year as well.”
Despite the recent improvements, the Dolphins have faced challenges this season. The team has experienced a series of narrow defeats, with three losses occurring by just one score. This underscores the competitive nature of their matches and hints at the potential for a late-season playoff push.
The Dolphins have already made significant changes, including the transition from their previous general manager. As they look toward the future, strengthening both the defense and the offensive line will be critical. However, parting ways with Tagovailoa could prove costly, as the team would incur a substantial salary cap hit.
In a season filled with ups and downs, the Dolphins are at a crossroads. The decisions regarding McDaniel and Tagovailoa will significantly influence the direction of the franchise as they aim to build on their recent success and improve their standing in the NFL. As the playoffs approach, the organization will closely monitor the team’s performance and player dynamics.
