Indiana Recycling Grants Total $42M; PNW Launches Specialty Plate

UPDATE: Indiana officials just announced a groundbreaking initiative to enhance recycling efforts across the state, allocating a staggering $42 million in grants. The funding, approved by the Indiana Recycling Market Development Board, aims to significantly reduce landfill waste and create new jobs, making it a pivotal moment for environmental sustainability in Indiana.

Among the recipients, Goodwill Industries of Michiana in Lake County will receive $301,011 to divert an additional 32,812 tons of recyclable materials each year. This collaborative effort is projected to create 42 jobs and prevent nearly 197,884 tons of materials from ending up in landfills, according to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

Additional grants include $500,000 awarded to CT Polymers in Marshall County, $453,989 for Greencycle in Marion County, and $500,000 for Nexus IN RNG – Laporte, LLC in LaPorte County. The funding will help bolster recycling infrastructure throughout the state, making a significant environmental impact.

In another important announcement, Governor Mike Braun has appointed several new members to state boards and commissions, including residents from Lake, Porter, and LaPorte County. Key appointments feature Elizabeth Bergeron to the Indiana Protection and Advocacy Services Commission and Rick Smith to the Underground Plant Protection Advisory Committee, among others. These appointments reflect a commitment to regional representation in state governance.

Additionally, Indiana Dunes Tourism is launching a $50,000 grant program aimed at funding community projects and marketing initiatives. Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on December 1, with recipients announced on January 5. This program invites for-profit, non-profit, and governmental organizations in Porter County to propose projects that will attract visitors, enhancing local tourism and economic growth.

In health news, Dr. Marrium Siddiqui, an infectious disease physician, has joined the Franciscan Physician Network and is now accepting new patients in Crown Point. With a medical degree from Lincoln Memorial University and fellowship training from Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Dr. Siddiqui is poised to make a significant impact in the community. In an exciting development for Purdue University Northwest (PNW), a new specialty license plate will be available starting in January. This initiative allows Indiana residents to showcase their school spirit while contributing to scholarships for PNW students.
