Freshman Logyn Greer Shines as Buffs Crush Portland State 77-45
UPDATE: Freshman Logyn Greer delivered an electrifying performance today, leading the CU Buffs to a commanding 77-45 victory over Portland State at the CU Events Center in Boulder, Colorado. Just announced, Greer’s season-high 19 points and six rebounds propelled the Buffs to their second win of the season, improving their record to 2-1.
The Buffs showcased exceptional defense throughout the game, forcing an astounding 26 turnovers from Portland State, while only committing 17 themselves. This defensive effort led to a staggering 18 steals, marking the highest total for the CU team since November 28, 2023.
Greer, who struggled early in the season, found her rhythm with a standout performance. “At the start of the season, I was like a deer in headlights,” Greer remarked after the game. “But now I’m really starting to get into it and just understand and just play with pace.” Her critical contributions included 10 points in the third quarter, helping the Buffs expand their lead from 14 points at halftime to a whopping 23 by the end of the third.
Head Coach JR Payne praised Greer’s talent, stating, “Anyone can see Logyn, she’s the type of player who walks in the gym and people say, ‘Who’s that?’ just by the way she looks and moves. The sky’s the limit.” Despite only Greer reaching double figures, the team effort was evident as four other players – Zyanna Walker, Desiree Wooten, Anna Gooden, and Claire O’Connor – each scored eight points.
The Buffs’ dominant second half was complemented by a significant turnaround in rebounding. After being out-rebounded in the first half, they secured 29 rebounds to Portland State’s 8 in the second half. “Great win,” Coach Payne added. “So many different people played. We rebounded incredibly well in the second half.”
Zyanna Walker also stood out with her defensive prowess, matching her career high with five steals, emphasizing the importance of converting defense into offense. “Just turn the defense into offense,” Walker advised, reflecting on the team’s strategy after a shaky start.
Looking ahead, the Buffs are set to host Boise State on Tuesday, November 21, at 7 p.m. (ESPN+), where they aim to continue their momentum from this decisive win. As the team continues to build chemistry and confidence, fans are eagerly anticipating how Greer and her teammates will progress in the coming games.
This victory not only showcases Greer’s potential but also signifies a promising season for the CU Buffs as they strive to make their mark in women’s basketball.
