North Central and Wheaton College Secure Spots in NCAA Playoffs

North Central College and Wheaton College have both earned their places in the upcoming NCAA Division III football playoffs, showcasing their impressive performances throughout the season. North Central, located in Naperville, Illinois, is poised to defend its title, having won three championships in the last six years. The Cardinals head into the playoffs with a stellar record, aiming for back-to-back national titles.

Cardinals Aim for Fourth Championship

The reigning national champions, North Central College, will take on the winner of the upcoming match between Muhlenberg College and Union College on November 29, 2025. The game is scheduled for noon Central Time at North Central’s home ground. This season, the Cardinals have displayed one of the most formidable offenses in Division III football. They averaged over 54 points per game while allowing a mere 6.6 points per contest.

Star players have contributed significantly to their success. Running back Donovan Mitchell has been pivotal, amassing 1,009 rushing yards and seven touchdowns across ten games. Quarterback Garrett Wilson has led the passing game with 2,078 yards and 35 touchdowns on only 191 attempts, solidifying the Cardinals’ reputation for explosive scoring.

Wheaton College Joins the Fray

Wheaton College, also based in the Chicago area, joins North Central in the playoffs following a successful season with an 8-2 record. The Thunder will face Crown College on November 22, 2025, looking to make a strong playoff run. Their offense has been equally impressive, averaging 45.8 points per game. Quarterback Mark Forcucci has thrown 28 touchdown passes, while running back Matt Crider has scored eight rushing touchdowns.
