Volkswagen Unveils T-Roc R: Hot SUV Launches with 328 HP Today
UPDATE: Volkswagen has just announced the highly anticipated launch of the new T-Roc R, a performance SUV that is set to shake up the compact crossover market. Deliveries are kicking off this month, and the excitement surrounding this model is palpable, especially as it becomes Europe’s fourth best-selling vehicle in 2023.
Recent sales data from Dataforce reveals that the T-Roc achieved an impressive 170,931 units sold through October, solidifying its status as a prominent player in the automotive landscape. The new T-Roc R promises to elevate this success even further with its high-performance features and cutting-edge technology.
The T-Roc R, however, will not hit the streets until 2027. Despite being cloaked in camouflage, it has already caught the attention of car enthusiasts. Notable features include a striking Akrapovič quad-exhaust setup and 20-inch forged wheels designed for enhanced grip. Up-close images shared by Autocritica highlight the SUV’s aggressive bumpers and robust braking system, signaling that this is no ordinary crossover.
Under the hood, the T-Roc R is expected to share the potent turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine with the latest Golf R, delivering an identical output of 328 hp and 295 lb-ft (or 420 Newton-meters) of torque. In a significant development, Volkswagen is integrating a mild-hybrid setup, likely leveraging a 48-volt system aimed at boosting efficiency to comply with upcoming Euro 7 emissions regulations.
While the introduction of electrification may temper the T-Roc R’s power output, the focus remains on enhancing performance without sacrificing efficiency. Industry experts are eagerly awaiting whether the Golf R will also transition to a mild-hybrid engine, particularly as the last internal combustion engine variant of the Golf faces an uncertain future.
The T-Roc R will feature a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission, marking the absence of the much-loved six-speed manual gearbox. Furthermore, it will come exclusively with Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system, ensuring optimal handling and traction in various driving conditions.
However, U.S. fans of the R division will be disappointed to learn that the T-Roc R will not be joining the American lineup, much like the highly regarded Golf R wagon. Additionally, Volkswagen is preparing to phase out the luxurious Touareg R by 2026, signaling a significant shift in the brand’s performance portfolio.
Looking into the future, Volkswagen is not just focused on traditional combustion engines. The company is hinting at a fully electric R model, which many believe is an inevitable step in their evolution. With teasers of a combustion-free Polo GTI already making waves, the automotive world is on the edge of its seat for what the R division will unveil next.
As the T-Roc R gears up for its debut, car enthusiasts and industry insiders alike are buzzing with anticipation over what this model will bring to the table. Keep an eye on Volkswagen as they navigate the challenges of electrification while maintaining their reputation for performance and innovation.
