Platinum Equity to Transfer Unical Aviation to Airbus’s Satair
Platinum Equity has reached an agreement to sell Unical Aviation, a prominent provider of aerospace aftermarket solutions, to Satair, a subsidiary of Airbus. The transaction, which includes Unical’s subsidiary, eCube Solutions, is expected to finalize in early 2026. This move follows a comprehensive operational modernization program undertaken by Platinum Equity since acquiring Unical in 2021.
Unical Aviation specializes in supplying used serviceable material and aircraft components, while eCube Solutions focuses on aircraft storage, disassembly, and transition services. The sale aims to enhance the operational capabilities and market position of both Unical and Satair within the global aerospace industry.
In a statement, Jacob Kotzubei, co-President of Platinum Equity, expressed pride in the achievements made during Unical’s transformation. “When we acquired the business, we saw tremendous potential to modernize its operations, expand its position within the aerospace aftermarket, and elevate its presence on the global stage,” Kotzubei remarked. He emphasized that the transaction reflects Platinum Equity’s commitment to assisting family- and founder-owned businesses in scaling and innovating.
Details of the Transaction
The sale’s structure includes strategic advisory support from Jefferies LLC and Fifth Third Securities, serving as financial advisors, while ReedSmith provides legal counsel for Unical throughout the process. This acquisition aligns with Satair’s goal of strengthening its portfolio in the aerospace aftermarket sector.
With the anticipated finalization in early 2026, this transaction highlights the ongoing consolidation trend within the aerospace industry. Companies are increasingly focusing on enhancing their capabilities and expanding their market reach in response to evolving demands.
Platinum Equity’s acquisition of Unical in 2021 initiated a series of improvements aimed at modernizing the company’s operations. The transformation program included strengthening leadership and fostering growth, setting the stage for this major sale.
As the aerospace sector continues to navigate complex global challenges, this acquisition exemplifies strategic moves by established firms to remain competitive and relevant. The collaboration between Unical Aviation and Satair is expected to yield significant benefits for both entities, enhancing their respective positions in the market.
The news of this sale underscores the dynamic nature of the aerospace industry and the ongoing efforts by major players to adapt and thrive amid changing market conditions.
