URGENT UPDATE: Central Pennsylvania is bracing for a significant snowfall that could impact morning commutes today. The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 3:26 AM this morning, warning residents of snow accumulation until 8 AM across multiple counties.

The alert covers areas including Northern Clinton, Northern Centre, Southern Centre, Northern Lycoming, and extends to Clearfield, Blair, Huntingdon, Mifflin, Juniata, Sullivan, Union, Snyder, Montour, Northumberland, Columbia, and Schuylkill counties.

According to the latest forecast, a compact but potent upper-level disturbance is moving east from South-Central PA towards the Southern Poconos, bringing a period of accumulating wet snow during the early to mid-morning hours. The snow is expected to taper off west of Interstate 99 between 4 AM and 5 AM and will become more concentrated across the Middle Susquehanna Valley and Western Poconos from 5 AM to 8 AM.

Residents should prepare for slippery conditions as untreated roads are likely to become slushy. Snow accumulations could reach between 1 to 2 inches on colder, grassy surfaces. This unexpected wintry weather is poised to disrupt the morning commute for many, particularly those traveling southeast of a line drawn from Altoona to State College and Williamsport.

The National Weather Service cautions that travelers should exercise extra caution during this time. Potentially slick roads could lead to accidents, prompting officials to advise drivers to slow down and maintain ample stopping distance from vehicles ahead.

As conditions develop, stay tuned for further updates from the National Weather Service and local authorities. If you must travel this morning, remain vigilant and drive safely to avoid any incidents.
