Wegmans’ Smita Katakwar Joins GS1 US Board to Enhance Standards
Smita Katakwar, senior vice president of technology at Wegmans Food Markets, Inc., has been elected to the GS1 US Board of Governors. This appointment aims to advance the organization’s strategy to promote the adoption of GS1 Standards across various industries, enhancing supply chain efficiency and visibility in sectors including apparel, grocery retail, and healthcare.
Based in Ewing, New Jersey, the announcement was made on November 19, 2025. Katakwar brings over two decades of experience in technology strategy and digital innovation within global retail. At Wegmans, she leads a team focused on defining technical strategies that enrich customer and employee experiences. Her responsibilities also include overseeing data and architecture groups that work towards a future-ready enterprise architecture, aligning with Wegmans’ commitment to innovation.
Prior to her role at Wegmans, Katakwar was the vice president of digital at BJ’s Wholesale Club and held the position of director of innovation and strategy at Sears. During her tenure at Sears, her team secured a patent for innovative smart home service and delivery concepts, showcasing her capacity for driving technological advancements.
Leadership and Vision for the Future
