Goodhue Wildcats Gear Up for Class 2A Prep Bowl Showdown Today
URGENT UPDATE: The Goodhue Wildcats are set to face off against the Jackson County Central Huskies TODAY at 4 p.m. in the Class 2A Prep Bowl at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. This highly anticipated matchup marks Goodhue’s return to the state championship for the first time since 2007.
Goodhue enters this decisive game with a stellar season behind them, featuring a remarkable defense that has allowed just 7.4 points per game across 12 games. The Wildcats are poised to leave their mark, hoping to replicate the success of legendary teams from the past, including the iconic 2003 squad that won the school’s first state title.
However, the challenge ahead is formidable. Jackson County Central, the defending state champion, boasts an impressive record of 12-0 and averages a staggering 51.8 points per game. They are led by standout quarterback Roman Voss, a University of Minnesota commit, who is determined to dominate the field. Voss is backed by a powerful offensive line, including Weston Rowe, a 6-foot-7, 292-pound prospect committed to South Dakota State University.
As the Wildcats prepare for this epic showdown, they can draw inspiration from their rich history of success. The 2003 Wildcats were known for their “G-Force” defense, which did not allow a single point in the first quarter throughout the entire season. That team’s legacy is still celebrated in Goodhue, where names like Buck, Ryan, and Thomforde have become synonymous with excellence.
Today’s squad features emerging stars such as Luke Roschen, Jack Carlson, and Owen Roschen, all aiming to create their own legacy. The Wildcats’ defense has recorded five shutouts this season, proving their mettle against tough opponents.
In an additional advantage, Goodhue boasts a reliable kicker in Christian Monjaraz-Mendez, who has already made game-winning plays this season, including a crucial PAT in overtime during the state quarterfinals.
The excitement is palpable in the town of Goodhue as fans eagerly anticipate the kickoff. The community is rallying behind their team, hoping for a victory that could instill pride and joy for generations to come.
Stay tuned for updates as the game unfolds, and witness if the Wildcats can seize their moment in history. The legacy of Goodhue football is at stake, and the entire community is ready to cheer them on!
