No. 21 CU Buffs Volleyball Swept by Cincinnati in Urgent Loss
URGENT UPDATE: The Colorado Buffaloes volleyball team faced a disappointing defeat on November 24, 2023, losing to the Cincinnati Bearcats in a decisive match that ended with scores of 25-15, 25-16, 25-16. This marked only the third time this season that the 21st-ranked Buffaloes have been swept.
The Buffs, now holding a record of 22-7 and 12-5 in the Big 12, struggled significantly on the court, posting a hitting percentage of just .105. In stark contrast, Cincinnati excelled with an impressive .404 hitting percentage, showcasing their dominance throughout the match.
“A disappointing result,” remarked CU head coach Jesse Mahoney in a press release. “Cincinnati did everything right, and we couldn’t get going. We’ve been a really good defensive team this year – we haven’t let anyone hit for those kind of numbers. We just couldn’t slow them down for whatever reason, and we lost some discipline once we got down.”
The Buffaloes now return home to prepare for their final regular-season match against No. 25 BYU next Saturday, November 29, 2023, at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN+. This crucial match will be pivotal as they seek to regain momentum before entering postseason play.
In the Cincinnati match, standout performances included Jordan and Splawska each with 8 kills for Colorado, while the Bearcats’ Nolan led all players with 19 kills. On assists, Finley contributed 19 for the Buffs, while Spies tallied 31 for Cincinnati. The defensive effort also fell short for Colorado, with Burilovic and Neal leading the team with 8 digs each.
As the Buffs look ahead, fans are eager to see how this loss impacts their strategy against BYU. Will the team rally back and close the season on a high note? Stay tuned for updates as the situation develops.
