Cleveland’s Beloved Bookhouse Brewing to Close by 2025
Bookhouse Brewing, a cherished taproom in Ohio City, will close its doors by the end of 2025. Known for its literary theme, cozy atmosphere, and unique small-batch beers, the brewery has become a community hub since its establishment in 2018. The announcement marks a significant loss for local residents who have come to appreciate not just the beverages, but the vibrant cultural scene it fostered.
Challenges Faced by Microbreweries
The past year has proved particularly challenging for many microbreweries across the United States, including Bookhouse Brewing. Co-founders Vaughn Stewart and Luke Brevoort cited economic factors as the primary reason for their decision to close. Despite the challenges, the brewery maintained a loyal customer base, drawing patrons not only for its offerings but also for events such as poetry nights and book readings. This engagement created a community atmosphere that transcended the typical brewery experience.
Located in a historic 19th-century building at 1526 W 25th St., Cleveland, Bookhouse Brewing was designed to be more than just a place to enjoy craft beer. The founders envisioned a space where people could gather, connect, and share ideas. As Stewart explained, “Although the economics of beer don’t work anymore, I hope the building continues to serve as a gathering place.”
A Bittersweet Farewell
The impending closure has left many locals feeling a sense of loss. For them, Bookhouse Brewing represented much more than a venue for craft beer; it was a vital part of Cleveland’s identity. In recent weeks, Stewart has encouraged patrons to use their gift cards, tip generously, and cherish their time spent in the establishment.
“It’s bittersweet,” one regular customer remarked. “We’re not just saying goodbye to a brewery; we’re losing a piece of what makes Ohio City special.” As the community prepares to bid farewell, the impact of Bookhouse Brewing will be felt long after its final service.
As the brewery approaches its closing date, it will continue to host events and foster connections among its patrons, ensuring that its legacy remains alive in the hearts of those who frequented its welcoming space.
