Richmond Shooting Victim Identified: Josue Cornejo, 23, Killed

UPDATE: The victim of a deadly shooting in Richmond has been identified as 23-year-old Josue Cornejo. Authorities confirm he was fatally shot on November 17, 2023, in the Iron Triangle area, marking one of four homicides investigated by Richmond police this year.

Just after 5:55 a.m., police received alerts from a gunshot detection system in the 1400 block of Bissell Avenue near Marina Way. Multiple witnesses also reported hearing gunfire. Officers arrived on the scene to find Cornejo suffering from a gunshot wound. Unfortunately, he died at the scene.

Details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting remain unclear. Police have not disclosed whether Cornejo was shot from a passing vehicle or confronted on the street. Moreover, there is currently no information regarding a motive, suspects, or any arrests.
