Dallas Cowboys’ Marshawn Kneeland Found Dead After 160 MPH Chase
UPDATE: In a shocking turn of events, Dallas Cowboys’ player Marshawn Kneeland was found dead early on November 6, 2023, following a harrowing police chase that reached speeds of up to 160 mph. This tragic incident unfolded after a frantic pursuit initiated by Texas state troopers, who were unaware they were chasing an NFL player.
The pursuit began at approximately 10:33 p.m. on November 5 when a trooper attempted a traffic stop on Kneeland’s Dodge Charger on the Dallas North Tollway. The vehicle rapidly accelerated, reportedly exceeding 145 mph before reaching a peak speed of 160 mph according to body camera footage released on Friday. The chase ended when Kneeland crashed the Charger into a Ford F-350 at around 10:42 p.m. in Frisco, a suburb of Dallas.
After abandoning the wrecked vehicle, Kneeland fled on foot, prompting a massive search operation that included officers, K-9 units, and drones. Authorities initially believed the car may have been stolen, and they were unaware of Kneeland’s identity during the chaotic search. His girlfriend, Catalina Mancera, who later confirmed his identity, was briefly detained for withholding information about his whereabouts, expressing her fear that Kneeland was suicidal.
The frantic search intensified around 11:20 p.m., as officers scoured nearby wooded areas and drainage tunnels. A Frisco police officer was heard warning, “If you’re in this tunnel, I’m going to send my dog in here. He is going to bite you. This is your last opportunity.” Despite deploying pepper balls and a drone into the tunnels, the search yielded no results.
As the night progressed, concern grew among Kneeland’s friends and family, who had received troubling goodbye messages from him. By 1 a.m. on November 6, authorities had confirmed Kneeland’s identity and were racing against time to locate him. Tragically, his body was discovered inside a portable toilet, a devastating conclusion to a night filled with desperation.
Mancera took to Facebook to share her heartbreak, stating, “My sweet boy is really gone. The things that I would do just to hold you one more time.” The Cowboys organization has announced a memorial fund to support Mancera, who is expecting the couple’s child.
This incident raises urgent questions about mental health awareness and the pressures faced by professional athletes. The national suicide and crisis lifeline is available at 988 for anyone in need of support.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Kneeland’s death, and the NFL community mourns the loss of a promising young player.
