The annual Turkey Ball game in Lewiston is set to commemorate its 50th anniversary at a new location this Thanksgiving. The basketball event will take place at the Schweitzer Clubhouse, formerly known as Booth Hall, located at 819 12th St. in downtown Lewiston. This change comes as the traditional venue, the Orchards Clubhouse, is unavailable for the occasion.

Doors will open at 8 a.m. on November 23, 2023, with the game commencing at 8:30 a.m.. The community is encouraged to attend and participate in this long-standing tradition.

Steve Forge, one of the founders of Turkey Ball, shared insights about the event during a recent episode of the Lewiston Tribune Podcast. The initiative began in 1975 when Forge and a group of friends decided to gather for a Thanksgiving morning basketball game. Since its inception, the game has been held annually, with the exception of one year during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Turkey Ball game has evolved into a cherished local tradition, bringing together players and spectators alike to celebrate the holiday spirit through sportsmanship and community engagement.

As the event marks its half-century milestone, Forge expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to continue the legacy at the new venue. The Schweitzer Clubhouse is expected to accommodate the expected crowd and provide a festive atmosphere for all participants.

For those interested in learning more about Turkey Ball, Forge’s recent podcast appearance offers a deeper look into the history and significance of this beloved event in Lewiston’s community.
