Janie Carol Thetford, a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, at the age of 73. Surrounded by loved ones, her departure marks a significant loss for family and friends alike. Known for her warmth and generous spirit, Janie left an indelible mark on the lives she touched.

Born on September 12, 1952, in San Pedro, California, Janie was a proud graduate of San Pedro High School’s Class of 1970. Following her graduation, she married and began a family, creating a nurturing home filled with love and laughter. Her utmost joy came from caring for her family, a commitment she fulfilled with unwavering devotion throughout her life.

Janie had a profound connection to nature. She dedicated time each day to feeding squirrels and birds, finding solace in nurturing even the smallest creatures. This deep appreciation for the environment was a value she instilled in her three daughters: Sarah Elizabeth Wiley, Jodi Beth Gilbert, and Missy Jean Wilson. Her love extended to her beloved pets, including her dog, Willie, and her cat, Quinn, who were constant companions and sources of joy.

A Legacy of Kindness and Compassion

Janie’s life was characterized by kindness and compassion. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Johnny, and her first husband. She is survived by her loving husband, Phil Max Thetford, who shared many years of happiness with her, along with her daughters and her cherished grandson, Stephen Wiley Wilson, who was the apple of her eye.

A memorial service to honor Janie’s life will take place on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at Green Hills in San Pedro. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to the San Pedro Animal Shelter, a cause that held special significance for Janie.

As her loved ones gather to celebrate her life, Janie’s memory will undoubtedly serve as a source of comfort and strength for all who were touched by her compassion and spirit.
