The European Film Academy has revealed the nominations for the crafts categories of the 2026 European Film Awards, highlighting a diverse array of talent. Leading the nominations are Yorgos Lanthimos‘ dark comedy Bugonia, Olivier Laxe’s post-apocalyptic film Sirāt, and Mascha Schilinski’s period drama Sound of Falling, each receiving five nominations.

“These films showcase innovative storytelling and exceptional craft,”

said a representative of the Academy. Bugonia stands out for its unique take on the 2003 Korean sci-fi comedy Save the Green Planet!, securing nominations in categories such as best original score, editing, production design, and sound design.

Meanwhile, Sirāt, which presents a hopeful perspective on mortality, is recognized for its casting, cinematography, and editing. It has also been nominated for best production and sound design. Sound of Falling interweaves the narratives of four young women from different generations on the same farm, garnering nominations for casting, cinematography, original score, and costume design. Both Sirāt and Sound of Falling are also contenders for the prestigious best European Film award.

In addition to these films, Joachim Trier’s melodrama Sentimental Value leads the main EFA categories with five nominations, including best European Film. It also received nominations for best casting, original score, and production design.

Another notable contender is Agnieszka Holland’s biopic of Franz Kafka, titled Franz, which has secured nominations for costumes and hair and makeup, showcasing the depth of talent across the board.
