Nearly 200 Million Shoppers Expected Over Thanksgiving Weekend
Retail experts anticipate that approximately 187 million individuals will shop in stores and online from Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday. This figure is based on a consumer survey released on November 20 by the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights and Analytics, reflecting an increase from last year’s prediction of 183.4 million shoppers.
According to past data from December 2024, actual turnout during the holiday weekend reached 197 million. This year’s forecast suggests that holiday shopping will continue to play a significant role in consumer spending.
“The holidays are an important part of many consumers’ budgets, and that trend is especially true this season,” said Katherine Cullen, Vice President of Industry and Consumer Insights at the National Retail Federation, in a statement. The continuing increase in shopper numbers indicates a resilient consumer base eager to participate in holiday spending.
Vintage Toys Make a Comeback
The survey also highlighted a nostalgic trend in toy purchasing, with classic items from the 1960s regaining popularity. This year, toy buyers are expected to focus on Legos, Barbie, and Hot Wheels, along with dolls, making these vintage classics the top choices among consumers. The resurgence of these toys reflects a blend of tradition and modern consumer interests, appealing to both parents and children.
As retailers prepare for the influx of shoppers, many are expected to offer enticing promotions and discounts during the holiday weekend. Retailers hope to attract consumers looking for the best deals to stretch their budgets. With Black Friday and Cyber Monday approaching, the overall shopping environment remains competitive.
In summary, the Thanksgiving holiday shopping period is poised to draw a significant number of consumers, with trends pointing towards both increased participation and a return to beloved vintage toys. Retailers are keen to leverage these insights to maximize sales during this crucial shopping season.
