Transform: Auto Launches in Europe to Drive Supplier Decarbonization
On December 1, 2025, the Transform: Auto program announced its expansion into European markets, aiming to enhance supplier decarbonization efforts among automakers and their partners. This initiative, a collaboration between Trio, a global energy and sustainability advisory firm, and the Suppliers Partnership for the Environment, reflects the automotive industry’s commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency.
The expansion comes on the heels of successful renewable energy procurement initiatives launched in North America. Since its inception in September 2024, Transform: Auto has attracted over 800 supplier participants, demonstrating a clear trend towards sustainable operations in the automotive sector. Major sponsors of the program include industry giants such as Cummins, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Honda Development & Manufacturing of America, Magna, and Toyota Motor North America.
Decarbonization Goals and Educational Resources
Transform: Auto is designed to assist automotive suppliers in identifying opportunities to reduce their scope 2 emissions, which are indirect emissions related to electricity consumption. The program offers complimentary educational resources that help suppliers explore renewable energy options and provides tools for independent analysis.
Participants have the flexibility to pursue renewable energy goals independently or join a buyers’ cohort facilitated by Trio. Joey Lange, Senior Managing Director for Sustainability and Clean Energy at Trio, emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving industry-wide emissions reductions. He stated, “The expansion of Transform: Auto into the European market signifies a larger industry trend—that supply chain sustainability is not slowing down.”
The program aims to adapt its offerings to the specific needs of suppliers in Europe, aligning with local reporting standards such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Transform: Auto will be rolled out across all 27 countries in the European Union, as well as in the United Kingdom, Turkey, and Morocco, which are significant automotive manufacturing hubs.
Support from Industry Leaders
The commitment to sustainability is evident in the statements from program sponsors. Ahmed Elganzouri, Global Director of Sustainability and Energy at Magna, noted that the expansion would enhance collaboration among suppliers navigating renewable energy pathways. He remarked, “As Magna works toward its long-term decarbonization goals, renewable energy remains a key focus across all our regions.”
Ford’s Chief Supply Chain Officer, Liz Door, expressed confidence in the program, stating, “Ford is proud to invest in Transform: Auto, which will provide suppliers with tailored guidance and expert support to help them reach carbon-neutrality targets.” This reflects Ford’s commitment to fostering collaboration in the automotive industry for a sustainable future.
Direct suppliers to current program sponsors and members of the Suppliers Partnership for the Environment can register for Transform: Auto through their website. Companies interested in sponsoring the program for their supply chains can reach out for additional information.
The growth of Transform: Auto into Europe marks a significant step forward in the automotive industry’s efforts to enhance sustainability and reduce emissions across the supply chain.
