Homeowners in Yolo County, California, are facing an important deadline for their property taxes. The first installment for the fiscal year 2025-26 is due starting November 1, with payments accepted until 5:00 p.m. on December 10. Failing to meet this deadline will result in a significant penalty of 10%, as outlined by the California Revenue and Taxation Code.

For those considering mail-in payments, it is crucial to ensure that postmarks are from the U.S. Postal Service and date no later than December 10. Homeowners also have the option to pay their property taxes electronically, either online or via phone. However, it is important to note that payments made by credit or debit card will incur a convenience fee of 2.34%, while e-check payments remain free of charge. All electronic transactions must be completed by 11:59 p.m. on December 10.

Key Information for Homeowners

The Yolo County Tax Collector’s Office emphasizes the need for timely payments to avoid penalties. Additionally, homeowners should be aware that the law does not excuse those who claim not to have received their tax bill. If you have not received your bill, it is advisable to contact the Tax Collector’s Office at (530) 666-8625 or email [email protected]. For in-person assistance, the office is located at 625 Court Street, Room 102, Woodland, and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with extended hours until 5:00 p.m. on December 10.

Paying property taxes on time is not just about avoiding penalties. These taxes are essential for funding local services, including schools, community colleges, and fire districts, which rely on property taxes for over 90% of their annual funding. The county itself receives about 9% of the total revenue generated from these taxes, which translates to roughly 9 cents of every dollar paid.

As the deadline approaches, homeowners are encouraged to take action to ensure their payments are processed on time. By doing so, they can contribute to the essential services that benefit the entire community.
