Alabaster’s Rhythm and Brews Returns to Support Local Children
Owens House, the children’s advocacy center in Shelby County, is set to host the fourth annual Rhythm and Brews fundraiser on March 14, 2026. The event will take place at Siluria Brewing Company in Alabaster, starting at noon. Attendees can enjoy a vibrant atmosphere filled with live music, karaoke, and various activities, all aimed at supporting local children in need.
A Day of Music and Activities
This year’s Rhythm and Brews promises a full day of entertainment, including a special kids-only open-stage karaoke session kicking off at noon. Following this, the event will transition into a mini festival featuring live performances from local bands. Food trucks will be on site, and attendees can participate in a silent auction along with the popular activity, Crack the Code.
Mattie Cleckler, development coordinator at Owens House, expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, “It’s a great way to hang out and have a day of good music and enjoy a relaxed, good time.” The event will also see barbecue plates available for purchase starting at noon, lasting until 4 p.m. or until they sell out.
One of the highlights of the day will be the Crack the Code contest, sponsored by Rep. Corley Ellis. A cooler filled with donated liquor will be on offer, with attendees able to buy codes throughout the day. One lucky participant will win the cooler by correctly guessing the combination.
Highlighting Child Abuse Prevention Month
Traditionally held in April, this year’s Rhythm and Brews has been moved to March to coincide with the start of Child Abuse Prevention Month. This change allows the community to engage with the festivities while raising awareness about the critical services provided by Owens House. “It’s a great way to kick off a great month of raising awareness for kids in Shelby County,” said Cleckler.
Catherine Alexander-Wright, executive director of Owens House, emphasized the importance of community involvement: “We would love to have the community come and participate and just know that their support is going to support children and families in Shelby County.”
Established in 1993 by District Attorney Robert Owens Jr., Owens House has served as a vital resource for children who have experienced or witnessed trauma. The center’s current facility was built and named in his honor in 1997. With a dedicated team of six full-time employees, Owens House offers forensic interviews and mental health counseling, ensuring that each child’s case is approached holistically.
“We offer services to kiddos who have experienced trauma or witnessed trauma,” Alexander-Wright explained. “They are referred to us for forensic interviews, and we do special interviews for children designed to provide the least additional trauma to what they’ve already experienced.”
