Alt-Country Icon Todd Snider Passes Away at 59
Todd Snider, the renowned alt-country and Americana singer-songwriter, has died at the age of 59. His family and friends announced his passing on March 15, 2024, through a heartfelt post on his Instagram page. According to the message, Snider developed severe breathing issues and was hospitalized in Hendersonville, Tennessee, where doctors identified an undiagnosed case of walking pneumonia.
In their tribute, Snider’s loved ones requested that fans remember him in spirit, whether through prayer, lighting a candle, or as they phrased it, “rolling one up.” They expressed gratitude for the support he received from fans throughout his career, emphasizing how they had “carried him through so much over the years.”
Prior to his hospitalization, Snider faced challenges that impacted his health. Reports from People magazine revealed that he was the victim of a “violent assault” outside a hotel in Salt Lake City. The injuries sustained from this incident led to the cancellation of his “High, Lonesome and Then Some” tour, according to the Associated Press.

Todd Snider emerged on the music scene in the 1990s with his breakout single “Talkin’ Seattle Grunge Rock Blues.” His clever lyrics and unique storytelling style quickly made him a significant figure in both the alt-country and Americana genres.
