Beloved Seguin Resident Betty Jean Henk Jandt Passes at 91
Betty Jean Henk Jandt, a cherished member of the Seguin community, passed away on November 19, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on March 20, 1934, in Zorn, Texas, she was the daughter of Elenora Katie (Meister) and Adolph Bruno Henk. Throughout her life, Betty made significant contributions to her community, particularly through her work in school cafeterias and her roles as a beloved babysitter for families across Texas.
A Life of Service and Community Engagement
Betty dedicated many years to serving in the Alice Independent School District and the Seguin Independent School District, where she became a familiar face to students and families alike. Her commitment to nurturing others extended beyond her professional life; she was an active member of the Cross Church in Seguin since 1979. Betty was known for her love of music and dancing, as well as her passion for baseball, particularly her support for the Atlanta Braves.
Family and friends will remember Betty not only for her vibrant personality but also for her famous oatmeal cookies, which were a staple at family gatherings. She enjoyed spending quality time hunting and camping with her loved ones, creating lasting memories that her family holds dear.
Legacy and Family
Betty is preceded in death by her parents and six siblings: Alan, Roger, James, John, Edward, and Leo Henk, as well as Lucille Hehs. She is survived by her devoted husband of 69 years, Albert A. Jandt, and their children: Roxie Melton and her husband John, Dennis Jandt and his wife Carol Renay, Darryl Jandt and his wife Sandra, and Rayma Jean Jones and her husband David. Betty also leaves behind a legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Johnathon Melton, Stacey Melton, and many others, who will carry on her memory.
The visitation for Betty Jean Henk Jandt will take place on November 25, 2025, starting at 1:00 p.m. at Cross Church, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Reverend Jim Price, Reverend Jeremy Roy, and Chaplain Emanuel Carpenter. Interment will follow at Lone Oak Cemetery in Geronimo, Texas, with a reception to be held at the Friedens Church Activity Center.
Pallbearers for the service will include Johnathon Melton, Tim Hajovsky, Matthew Jandt, Jacob Jandt, Dylan LaLonde, and Mario Moreno. The family expresses gratitude to Guadalupe Regional Hospice Services for their compassionate care, as well as to Delia Retlidge and Monica Bell for their dedicated service over the years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cross Church, located at 814 N. Bauer, Seguin, Texas, 78155, or to a charity of one’s choice.
