Community Events Spotlight Mountain Top: Trunk or Treats and More
Residents of Mountain Top are gearing up for a series of community events this October and November, featuring activities that cater to all ages. The Slocum Township Volunteer Fire Company is hosting a trunk or treat event on Saturday, October 25, from 15:00 to 19:00 at the firehouse grounds, followed by a drive-in style Halloween movie at 20:00. Those interested in registering a trunk for the event can contact Tonia at 570-239-1737.
St. Mary’s Church in Dorrance Township will also hold a trunk or treat event on Sunday, October 26, from 17:30 to 19:30. To reserve a spot, attendees can call Stacey at 570-332-3801.
Upcoming Community Gatherings
The Mountain Top Social Club is organizing a meeting on Tuesday, October 28, at 13:30 at the American Legion located at 1550 Henry Drive. The club has announced several upcoming trips open to the public, including a visit to Penns Peak for “Barbara and Frank: The Concert That Never Was” on October 28 for $115, a trip to Dutch Apple Theatre for “A Chorus Line” on October 30 for $132, and a visit to Hunterdon Hills Playhouse for “Christmas at the Playhouse” on November 6 for $130. Membership is currently closed but will reopen in the future.
On Wednesday, October 29, a program on hypnosis and past life regression will be held at 18:00 at the Marian Sutherland Kirby Library. The session, led by Jennifer Corazza Baloga, founder of Transcendence Wellness, will explore techniques for healing and self-discovery. Registration is requested and can be done by visiting, calling, or emailing the library with name and phone number.
Seasonal Celebrations and Educational Programs
The St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will host a holiday craft show on Saturday, November 1, from 09:00 to 13:00. The event will feature a variety of crafts, a soup sale, a bake sale, and a visit from the Book Lady.
Additionally, the American Heart Association is offering a Heartsaver CPR and AED Class on Wednesday, November 5, at 18:00 at the Marian Sutherland Kirby Library. The training will be conducted by Margaret Austin, a registered nurse and outreach/prevention coordinator-trauma at Geisinger Wyoming Valley. The class costs $10, payable at the event, with checks made out to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Education. Registration is required through the library.
Christ United Methodist Church is planning a turkey dinner on Saturday, November 15, with takeout available from 14:00 to 16:00 and dine-in from 17:30 to 19:00. The cost is $15, and children under age 10 can eat for free. For more details, individuals can contact the church office at 570-474-6060.
On November 19, at 18:00, the Pennsylvania Game Commission will present an informative program on Chronic Wasting Disease at the Marian Sutherland Kirby Library. Wildlife Biologist Robyn Crouthamel will discuss this highly contagious and incurable neurological disease, which poses a significant threat to deer and elk populations in Pennsylvania. The disease spreads through bodily fluids and can remain undetected in infected animals for up to 18 months. As a result, feeding deer is discouraged and illegal in Pennsylvania’s Disease Management Areas. Interested participants can register by calling 570-474-9313 or visiting the library’s circulation desk.
Lastly, the library offers Socrates Café on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 18:00. This gathering encourages individuals from diverse backgrounds to come together and exchange ideas. New members are welcome, and interested individuals can call the library for more information.
Seniors Connect and Bridging the Tech Gap classes are also available at the Marian Sutherland Kirby Library, with sessions held every Friday at 15:30 and on alternate Saturdays at 10:00 and 14:00. Registration can be completed at the circulation desk or by calling the library to set up an appointment.
These events reflect a vibrant community spirit in Mountain Top, providing opportunities for engagement, learning, and celebration as the holiday season approaches.
