Rian Johnson has shared exciting insights regarding the future of his acclaimed Knives Out franchise. As anticipation builds for the third installment, Wake Up Dead Man, set to release on December 12, 2023, Johnson discussed his aspirations for future films, revealing a dream casting choice: Meryl Streep.

In an interview with Variety, the 51-year-old filmmaker expressed his admiration for the three-time Oscar winner, stating, “I feel like Meryl Streep would kill it. She was born to be in one of these movies; she’s hilarious.” Johnson’s enthusiasm reflects the acclaim Streep has garnered over her extensive career, making her a fitting candidate for the franchise known for its clever dialogue and engaging plots.

Despite his admiration, Johnson acknowledged a significant hurdle. “I don’t know her at all,” he admitted, laughing at the prospect of potentially collaborating with the iconic actress. The connection to Streep may not be entirely out of reach, as Kerry Washington, a co-star in Wake Up Dead Man, has worked with Streep before. Washington expressed her willingness to help facilitate a connection, saying, “You ask people about what it’s like to be in these movies, and everybody says it’s just a dream. So I would encourage her.”

The Knives Out franchise began with its first film in 2019, which was met with critical acclaim. The sequel, Glass Onion, followed in 2022, further establishing the series as a staple in modern mystery cinema. With Wake Up Dead Man currently in select theaters, audiences are eager to see how this installment continues the tradition of captivating storytelling.

As Johnson looks ahead, the possibility of Streep joining the cast adds an exciting layer to the franchise’s future. The combination of Johnson’s innovative storytelling and Streep’s exceptional talent could result in a film that resonates with audiences worldwide, maintaining the franchise’s momentum.

With Wake Up Dead Man hitting Netflix on December 12, fans can soon experience the latest chapter in the Knives Out saga while keeping an eye on the potential for future star-studded collaborations.
