LSI, Inc. Recalls Over 2 Million Pounds of Beef Jerky Products
LSI, Inc., a South Dakota-based company, is recalling more than 2 million pounds of ready-to-eat Korean barbecue pork jerky due to potential contamination with metal pieces. The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall in a statement released on October 24, 2023. This action affects approximately 2,277,540 pounds of the product labeled as “Golden Island fire-grilled Pork Jerky Korean Barbecue recipe,” which is packaged in 14.5 oz and 16 oz plastic pouches.
The affected products were distributed to retail locations, including Costco and Sam’s Club, throughout the United States. The FSIS classified this recall as a “High-Class I” recall, which is the most serious category established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). This classification indicates that the recalled items pose a significant risk to consumer health due to the potential presence of foreign materials.
Consumers who may have purchased the affected jerky products are advised to check their pantries and discard any remaining items. The company has urged those with questions or concerns to contact them directly for further assistance.
LSI, Inc. has committed to cooperating fully with the FSIS in addressing the situation. The company is also actively working to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future. As food safety remains a top priority, ongoing scrutiny and adherence to safety protocols are expected to follow this recall.
As food recalls can significantly impact public health, it is crucial for consumers to stay informed about products they purchase. Regular monitoring of updates from the FSIS and other food safety authorities can help individuals make safer choices regarding their food consumption.
In light of this incident, consumers are reminded to report any adverse reactions or concerns regarding the product to the FSIS. This proactive approach helps ensure the safety and well-being of the public.
