WHO Reports 3,135 Monkeypox Cases Globally in September

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that there were a total of 3,135 confirmed monkeypox cases worldwide in September 2023. This figure represents a significant portion of the ongoing health issue, with more than 80 percent of the cases reported from the African region. The data was released in a report on October 30, 2023, highlighting the global spread and ongoing impact of the disease.

In total, the cases reported in September came from 42 countries and included 12 deaths. The report also indicated that from January to September 2023, there have been 44,299 confirmed cases across 93 nations, resulting in 180 deaths. Geographic Spread and New Cases

The report noted that several countries have identified the presence of the clade Ib monkeypox virus (MPXV) for the first time.
