Beloved Community Leader Mildred Danko Passes at 89

Mildred Dolores Louise Danko, a respected member of the Republic community, passed away on November 12, 2025, at the age of 89. Known for her dedication to service and community involvement, Mildred leaves behind a legacy of compassion and leadership.

She was born to the late George and Suzanne Sheba Danko. In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by an infant brother and sister, her brother George Albert “Junior” Danko, and her great-nephew, Ryan Danko. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Eloise Danko of Ravenswood, West Virginia, along with several beloved nephews and nieces, including Roy David and Edward Michael from Ravenswood, and John Thomas and Tonda from Fort Myers, Florida.

Mildred graduated from Redstone High School in 1954 and dedicated over 40 years of her career to the Penn State Cooperative Extension, where she served as secretary and office manager until her retirement in 1996. Her commitment to community service extended to her active participation in the Holy Rosary Church, where she held various roles, including serving on the Pastoral Council and Cemetery Committee and acting as a Eucharistic Minister.

In a notable achievement, Mildred became the first female elected to the Board of Directors of the Fayette County Agricultural Improvement Association (County Fair), where she also served as treasurer. Her diverse skill set included being a licensed cosmetologist and an active member of the Ladies Club of Tower Hill #2.

The family expressed their gratitude to the staff, nurses, and aides of Monarch Meadow and OSPTA for their compassionate care during Mildred’s later years.
