Rosalie Silverglate Anderson, a beloved member of the Riverside, California community, passed away on November 23, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on April 9, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York, she moved to Riverside at the age of eight, where she established deep roots and connections that lasted throughout her life.

A Life Dedicated to Community and Family

Rosalie’s family played a significant role in the establishment of Riverside’s Temple Beth El, fostering her lifelong commitment to Jewish traditions and the broader community. She embodied the principle of Tikkun Olam, or the responsibility to repair the world, which guided her actions and relationships for over nine decades.

She received her education at Longfellow Elementary School, Riverside Community College, and UCLA, eventually earning a bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies and a master’s in Public Administration from UC Riverside. Her professional career included serving as the Assistant Director of Community and Housing Development for the City of Riverside, where she championed the idea that strong neighborhoods enhance the quality of life.

Legacy of Love and Joy

Rosalie met her first husband, Leonard Silverglate, while at UCLA. Their marriage was marked by love and mutual support until Leonard’s passing in 1993. In 1996, she married James (Jim) Anderson, with whom she shared a fulfilling life filled with travel, family gatherings, and cherished memories.

Her vibrant personality was complemented by a passion for tennis, reading, gardening, and flower arranging, as well as a talent for bringing people together. Friends and family remember her joyful smile and her ability to create beauty in every aspect of her life.

Rosalie is survived by her husband, James Anderson, and her children, David Silverglate (Suzanne), Sharon Silverglate, and Janet Silverglate (Micha). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Nathan, Lee, and Steven Silverglate, along with step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, illustrating her extensive family legacy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lou and Cecile Katz, her brothers, Aaron and Gerald Katz, and her first husband, Leonard Silverglate. Rosalie’s life was undoubtedly a blessing to those who knew her, and her absence will be profoundly felt in the lives she touched.

In honor of her memory, the family invites those who wish to pay tribute to consider planting a living memorial or sending flowers to commemorate her life.
