The first five of a total of 250 semitrucks filled with food donations were dispatched on March 15, 2024, as part of the America250 initiative. This effort, spearheaded by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, aims to commemorate the upcoming semiquincentennial anniversary of the United States. The donations are destined for food banks across the nation and are valued at approximately $15 million.

The initiative is designed to promote community service and share American stories, with a focus on making 2026 a “record-setting year of volunteer service.” The America250 initiative will involve collaboration with various nonprofits, schools, and faith-based organizations to enhance volunteer efforts as early as January.

According to church officials, the semitrucks are loaded with food from the Bishops’ Storehouse, which supports those in need. The first five trucks marked a significant milestone in this extensive donation campaign, highlighting the church’s commitment to aiding communities across the nation.

In addition to the food donations, the church has launched a new America250 landing page on its service site, encouraging U.S. members to engage in community service. The page features resources and opportunities for individuals to contribute their time and skills.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to inspire a spirit of service and unity, aligning with the goals of the America250 project, which seeks to celebrate 250 years of American history through various community-focused activities.

As the program unfolds, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints aims to ensure that each of the 250 food banks benefits from this substantial contribution, reinforcing the importance of community support during significant national milestones.
