Floyd “Sonny” Vansickle, Beloved Community Member, Passes Away

Floyd “Sonny” Vansickle, a cherished resident of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away on December 4, 2025, at the age of 81. His death marks a significant loss for his family and the community he served throughout his life.

Born on February 26, 1944, to Floyd H. Vansickle and Mattie L. Goslin, both of whom predeceased him, Sonny’s legacy includes a close-knit family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jill Vansickle, and their children, Jaimie Williams and Jeremy Heastan. Sonny was a proud grandfather to Delainie, Jagger, Mackenzie, and Ashtan Heastan (Yuri). He also leaves behind his sister, Rose Mary Seuell, and several brother- and sister-in-laws, including Janet, Kim, Francis, Kenny Doyle, and Gary.

Sonny was well-regarded in his community for his warmth and kindness. Many remember him fondly for his contributions and the positive impact he made on those around him. His family expressed gratitude for the compassionate care provided by Dr. Tyler Portor, M.D., and the team at St. Luke’s on the Plaza. They appreciated the respect shown for Sonny’s wishes during his final days.

The family will hold graveside services and interment on Monday, December 11, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends and community members are encouraged to attend to pay their respects.
